Discover a renewed compact monitor design with the Acoustic Energy AE1 40th Anniversary Edition. Updated drivers, crossover and cabinet construction retain the recognisable proportions and twin front ports of the original AE1 concept.
Key Features
- 125mm hard-anodized aluminum mid/bass driver – slightly larger than the original, with a shorting ring in the motor to lower distortion.
- 29mm aluminum dome tweeter – a bigger voice coil, ferrofluid cooling and a rear chamber keep the treble detailed but never harsh.
- Twin front-firing reflex ports – tight, weighty bass that is less sensitive to rear-wall distance than a rear-ported design.
- RSC constrained-layer cabinet – braced HDF and bitumen panels damp resonance, finished in ten coats of gloss lacquer.
- Low-order crossover – inspired by the AE1 Signature and voiced for a home listening room rather than a studio.
Good to Know
With 87dB sensitivity and a 6-ohm load, a quality solid-state integrated amplifier of around 50–150W is a good match; low-power single-ended tube amps are not recommended. Use dedicated stands of roughly 18–24 inches, and keep the speakers at least 50cm from the rear wall and 1m from side walls.
